School districts along the South Shore returned to classes this past week, before Labor Day weekend. Patchogue-Medford and South Country students both returned to school on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Patchogue-Medford superintendent Dr. Patrick Harrigan said, “The first day of school is always filled with excitement, optimism and a renewed sense of purpose across the Patchogue-Medford community. It was wonderful to see our students return with such enthusiasm, both our youngest learners beginning their educational journey and our high school seniors embarking and what will be a memorable school year, are off to a great beginning. Our dedicated faculty and staff were ready to welcome them into supportive, engaging learning environments. We are looking forward to a successful school year filled with growth, achievement, and meaningful opportunities for every student.”
South Country Central interim superintendent John Dolan said, "Given the challenges of last year, we are thrilled that school is open and happy to see our students and staff return. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to rebuild the school district that the South Country community expects us to be."
We asked the community to send us photographs of their eager back-to-schoolers on the first day and what they were most looking forward to this school year.
