Bellport native speaks at RNC

The Republican National Committee recently held their convention in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 15 to 18. Bellport native and current Freeport resident Madeline Brame took to the stage on July 16 to speak about suffering communities and support Donald Trump for president.

Brame, an NYC office assistant, was invited by the Trump campaign to speak at the RNC after giving her speech at the South Bronx rally in June.

The RNC is held to officially nominate and confirm a candidate for president and vice president, adopt a platform, and unify the party. During this year’s event, Trump announced his selection for VP as Sen. JD Vance.

After years of following the Democratic party, Brame said during her speech, she felt abandoned when her Afghanistan war-retired veteran son was murdered with a knife by four men on the streets of New York City.

“The four assailants responsible for his death initially were facing justice, but that changed when [Manhattan] district attorney Alvin Bragg was elected,” Brame said during her speech to a crowd booing in support. “Suddenly, two homicidal maniacs had their gang assault and murder charges completely dismissed.”

When asked what encouraged her to speak during the event, she said she doesn’t need encouragement, but rather she stands up for what she believes in.

“I decided to use the voice that God gave me to be the voice for voiceless across America,” she said, noting that she hopes what happened to her son will not continue to happen to people across the country. “We need accountability for prosecutors who fail in their duties and have turned our great country and cities into war zones.”

“Poor, neglected communities, like mine, are suffering—who else is sick and tired or being sick and tired?” she asked the crowd to applause. “The Democratic party […] betrayed us… they stabbed us in the back.”

She said her eyes have been opened and that Trump shares her same conservative values of love of God, family and country.

“He has been a victim of the same corrupt system that I have been and my family has been; he is committed to providing economic opportunities, helping those suffering from addiction with long-term drug programs, and rolling back the deadly bail reform policies getting our children killed every single day,” she said as the camera panned to Trump with a smile. “Let’s make America safe again and re-elect Donald J. Trump.”
